This past week my book, The IT Career Builder's Toolkit, was released from my publisher, Cisco Press. I received a box of 30 (per my contract) and have watched its numbers fluctuate but rise at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Personally, it is extremely gratifying and knowing that several thousand copies were printing and are selling is nice too! Even nicer is being notified that your publisher wants you to do more books this next year.
Shawn Mullins has a song titled, Something to Believe In. It has become a personal mantra of sorts. While I have been writing articles - several published since 2001, I began writing this book in 2002. From my perspective it has taken a long time to get published but I keep reading about and hearing from others who have been trying to sell their writing for years.
Today I sat for a few moments sipping my coffee and reflected on my writing projects, my goals, and next steps. I'm not writing about those, just reflecting on them.
I decided that I would start this blog and have meant to do so since in December but I have been interviewed, been consulting, and generally put it off for more pressing work. My objective is to have a place to write about topics that don't go into my IT Toolbox blog (one of their most popular) and that generally don't have direct relation to a writing project.
It may be thoughts on a news item, political commentary (careful Matt), metaphysics, a simple journal, parenting, poetry, lyrics, or anything else. It may be long (800-2000 words), short, and even fragmented (although I am currently reading, "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" - Lynne Truss - so I will attempt to have some grammatical integrity.
